"How to" manual for Anglo Caribbean

Would be community broadcasters in the English-speaking Caribbean
will get help soon when the manual "How to start your Community
Radio Station" is released by the Caribbean Network for Integrated
Rural Development (CNIRD).

Until recently, comunity radio was virtually unknown in Britain's
former West Indian colonies. However, new broadcast legislation in
many countries is finally opening the airwaves to community
broadcasters and the region's first independant community radio
experiments are beginning to surface. The CNIRD's manual seeks to
address the specific context faced by emerging broadcasters of the
region.

A draft of the manual was presented to a regional meeting held in
Trinidad and Tobago in February. Some 25 participants discussed
the draft and made recommendations for changes to be incorporated
in the final version.

Gregory Rabess, editor of the manual, said that the completed
version will be published before the end of 1994.
