Just got this off the wire...

"Ottawa is bringing in a new tax Friday (1 Jan 99) to compensate the
music industry for home recordings.  But so far, there's no word on
how much the tax will be.  The tax will be applied to recordable C-D's
and blank tapes -- and some fear it will double their price at the
cash register.  The levy might not be set for months, but when it is,
manufacturers expect to receive a bil retroactive to January 1st."

Is this fair to radio reporters who record nothing but voice and sound
on their cassettes???  Anybody have any ideas on what can be done??
