There are four fields designed for customization (Custom 1 - 4), and you can change the arrangements of many other fields. We strongly recommend that you don't put anything but author names in Author, Secondary Author or Tertiary Author, and that you assume that the Secondary Title and Alternate Title fields in the first reference type will be connected to the Journal Abbreviations file. The other trick when changing Reference Types is to remember that the changes are stored in the EndNote Prefs file in the System Folder (Mac) and the Endnote.prf file in the endnote or enplus directory (PC). Don't forget to back this file up, so you don't have to retype the changes. I also write the changes into the manual in the Reference Types Table section. If you want to have others see the changed Reference Types, you should copy the preferences file to their machines. You may have to reset the styles folder, the default library, the citation markers and a few other preferences. Avi Rappoport Niles & Associates, Inc.
