Interesting topic. The existing electronic bibliographies, such as those on CD-ROM and online services are copyright andanyone who wants to publish them (even excerpts) would have to negotiate permission. But what about printed bibliographies, especially older sources? Would the act of typing the data infringe on the copyright? I wonder. And I think that copyright expires eventually, even if the holder is a corporation. On other topics: I think that the distribution and publication mechanism ought to be done within a discipline (e.g. volcanology). Perhaps a consortium of some kind could help with the mechanics. Let's keep thinking about this! Avi Rappoport Niles & Associates, Inc.
