I wonder if some dialog on recognition of Prince Hall masonry would be in order. About ten years ago the GL of Wisconsin offered to take in all the Prince Hall subordinate lodges; that is, make them part of one GL in Wisconsin. The Prince Hall GL turned down the offer, understandably wanting to protect their "turf" and not wanting their GL organization to disappear. Since that time I believe Wisconsin and about eight other GLs have recognized the Prince Hall GLs in their respective jurisdictions. Do any of you have the latest information on this. I would like to see my state, Missouri, do this, but the GL is very reactionary on the subject. When I was at the 250th anniversary of the GL of Massachusetts, I saw many brothers of color from Mass., N. J., N. Y., etc., and there were no problems at all. An African-American recently joined Perserverence Lodge in Louisiana, Missouri, and we took him into the Scottish Rite here in St. Louis. A couple of grumbles from old timers, but no problems. I think the biggest obstacle to a complete "joining" is not racist attitudes, but the desire of the Prince Hall masons themselves wanting to preserve their own organizations. One additional problem in California is the existence of several competing PH GLs. I've been interested in this for a long time, and as PGM and SGIG in MO I'm delighted to find this forum. -- Earl K.
