TI has a nice, full-color brochure and spec sheet out for its data-colleection
device (got to be called a "tricorder").  My understanding is that producti
on models will be ready in June.

Briefly, it is slightly larger than an 82 with a small LCD screen at top and co
nnects via the data transfer cable.  It has 6 channels (3 analog inputs, 1 ultr
asonic motion detector input, 1 digital input, and 1 digital output).  Once you
 have set it up with the 82 or 85 (the current 85 does not fully support it, an
 April upgrade is supposed to) it functions as a stand-alone unit.

According to TI "The CBL acts like a multimeter, measuring voltage, resistance,
 period, frequency, and motion data as a stand-alone device....Comes with 3 pro
bes: temperature, light intensity, voltage ... Compatible with many popular pro
bes when used with optional adapter."

I'm already lobbying for a class next Fall in data collection and analysis for
secondary math ed and science ed majors.  Nice work TI - what's next???
