>When I create a tape with VMTAPE using a TimberLine STK (36-tracks >recording technique) the density of the volume as indicated in the TMC is >E3, >standing for non-IDRC. But the STK HW guys keep telling me that IDRC is >part of TimberLine and cannot be disabled... The density value in the TMC is selected based upon the density option on the mount command, or the default value, as indicated by the DEFDEN record in the VMTAPE CONFIG file. You may wish to change your default density to either "EXF" (which is 36 TRK, 38K bpi w/IDRC on a standard cartridge) or "ENHXF" (which is the same, but with an enhanced capacity cartridge.) This will cause x'E7' to be recorded in the TMC and that indicates IDRC was used unless the user specifies otherwise by overriding the default density with the mount option.
