Recently, I found a flaw in the way vmacct tracks vmtape mounts. When I do a tape mount interactively via vmtape, the charge is recorded appropriately and shows up in the vmacct query usage report and in the vmjorvw overhead report. When I mount a tape via vmtape through a vmscheduled job the tape mount charge is not recorded and it does not show up in the reports. I am not a systems person, but I am responsible for preparing reports on IBM usage for one of Temple's vice presidents who is a perfectionist. I have learned to be very careful in reports I give to him. As such, I reported this problem to our systems analyst. After spending four hours attempting to recreate this problem, he found nothing wrong. I then showed him in person what I am talking about and still, he denies that there is a problem. Since very few people use vmschedule on our system, I am ready to drop this subject on an official basis. I am, however, curious if anyone else has noticed this problem. If so, how did you fix it? Is there a bug in the software or is there a flaw in the way our Vmcenter files are configured?
