----------------------------Original message---------------------------- }I have a Pentium 60 with a 730mb Western Digital hard drive.. I often have }some directories on the hard drive damaged or crosslinked. As a result, I }have to reinstall windows and most other programs for windows after I fix }them. I guess it may be caused by the CPU malfunction because of its overheat }or some defects of the hard drive. I have a CPU cooler on the top of CUP. }How to locate the cause and how to solve it? Anyone had the same problem }before? I appreciate any advices and suggestions. Usually the errors you mention are caused by the computer not being shut down properly. For example, if Windows or some other program crashes while the computer is running and has files open, it might very well cause some damage to the FAT tables on the hard disk. Once one small problem occurs, it seems to cause other problems that spread as the computer is used. I have a program here that seems to cause problems like you described every time it is run. (It creates and accesses a great many LARGE files for hours at a time.) I was able to help the situation by adding a statement like "chkdsk /f" to the autoexec.bat so it would detect errors and fix them each time the computer was booted. Hope this helps! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Brandon E. Haag | In the middle of difficulty Gainesville College | lies opportunity.
