This is a "non-computer" question I hope that I can ask of the Lab Manager
List subscribers. If this has been asked for before, I would like to know
the result. Simply put, I would like to know how much you earn and what is
your responsibility.

The why of this question is obvious--many of us are undercompensated for
our skills and knowledge. This became obvious to me as a lab manager when I
was offered a position as a help desk _assistant_ with a salary 75% higher
than my current position (and the lab manager's salary is up only after I
threatened to quit if it was not raised to "full-time").

The best way of doing this might be to send me the information, which I
will compile and post to the list. I'm sure that most of us as university
employees have job classifications and salaries that are "public
knowledge".

I'll set the tone by answering my own questions.

Salary: $24,168
Computers supervised:
        20 (soon to be 26) Wintels and Mac in lab
        3 (soon to be 12) in professors offices
Student assistant supervision: 25 hours/week (really need 40 hours/week)
Student intern (volunteer) supervision: 20 hours/week
Duties and responsibilities:
        Classroom training: 10%
        Individual training, including student assistants: 35%
        Paperwork (purchasing, timesheets): 10%
        Setup and maintenance of computers and software: 25%
        Development of training materials: 5%
        Research and selection of new equipment and software: 10%
        Misc.: 5%
Desired salary: $35,000
