----------------------------Original message---------------------------- Our campus uses a copycard system to pay for laser printing. The reader is attached to the printer itself; and in my lab, there are two stations attached to the printer. The DOS/Windows station is attached with a parallel cable, and the Mac station via the Novell network (the printer is a Laserjet 4M). It works fine. This is one printer for 32 machines, with two networked dot matrix printers for the 16 DOS machines. The beauty of the system, which may be particular to our setup, is that we do nothing but feed paper and kill the paper jams (most of them are not true jams but are so reported if someone tries to print without first inserting their copycard in the reader), because our library does the setup, maintains the machines, provides the paper and toner, and collects all the fees (10 cents per page) by selling the cards. *************************************************************************** Michael Kessler (415) 338-1662 College of Humanities MKessler@ceres.sfsu.edu San Francisco State University ****************************************************************************
