Mark,
Sheesh, I feel like I'm talking to myself. Weird! Anyway, there are three
other freeware mail clients that will work fine, all are mac programs not
windows ports:
IMAP Clients
MailDrop - ftp://ackmo.baylor.edu/pub/bell/Mail_Drop/
Mailstrom - ftp://lindy.stanford.edu/pub/treister/mailstrom/
POP Client
Eudora - ftp://ftp.qualcomm.com/quest/eudora/mac
Of course there are commercial products, like Claris E-mailer, a commercial
version of Eudora, et al.
As far as what POP & IMAP are, simply put POP clients download all the mail to
your hard drive, giving you the option to leave a copy on the mail server, &
IMAP clients leave the mail on the server, giving you the option of saving
messages to your hard drive. There are pros & cons for both. See what your net
manager prefers you use.
Mark :-)
