By now most of you will have seen the Health Planner advertisement that
was posted to MDPHD-L.

This type of ad is strictly forbidden on MDPHD-L but unfortunately the
spammers get more clever all the time.  This ad was posted to thousands
of newsgroups, not just MDPHD-L.

NOTE that the return-address is INVALID so you cannot reply to the ad.
The spammers did this no doubt to protect themselves from the inevitable
hate mail they would otherwise receive.

The only way that I know of to positively protect MDPHD-L from this type
of spam would be to set the list status to Send=Editor, i.e., every post
would be routed to my mailbox and I would have to screen and forward
every post back to MDPHD-L.  This has been discussed before and the
overwhelming consensus was that the list readers do NOT want this type
of moderation on MDPHD-L.  Also, with the USMLE coming up and clerkships
beginning right after that, it is very unlikely that I would have the
time to do that.  Therefore, until the gods of the net come up with a
way to protect against forged approval headers, we just have to put
up with the occasional spam.
