I can't speak for neurosurgery residencies, but there's little in the way of integreted research in family practice residencies. The Lutheran General program requires a research project and has a month-long rotation incorporated into the curriculum, but most of the work needs to be done outside the structure of the program. This is probably due to the fact that research in Family Practice is still in its infancy overall. Moving on to a post-residency topic--I am beginning my search for an actual job after residency. I am looking for a combined clinical (family practice)-academic appointment in a med. school/med school plus university setting, where I can see patients part-time and continue my teaching and research in medical anthropology part-time. Most recruiters do not seem to know what to do with me or have little to offer except positions with various residency programs. How would I go about finding a reasonable fascimile of the above academic position? (If anyone knows of any specific openings, please e-mail me directly.)
