Depending on which aspects of otolaryngology you are interested in, You might
check out U. of Washington, Baylor, or Washinton U. in St. Louis. All have
excelent accademic programs in speach and hearing sciences which do a lot of
work with deafness/hearing impairment. However, I'd bet none of them have had
an MdPhD in this, so you might have to do some fast talking. I got a less than
wonderful reception from U. of W. when applying for a non-traditional
combination. I also know that there is a new joint MIT/Harvard program in
speach and hearing science which shows a lot of promise, and is connected with
the group doing research on choclear implant research. I know thins is only
one small part of ENT, if any of these interest you, get in touch. I may be
able to give you some names/intros. My feeling after applying (and getting
accepted for) a non-traditional combination is that it is helpful to have a
clear plan of what your doing and have people in the PhD program who know your
name and are supportive before you officially apply.
I thint that there is a lot for an MD/PhD to do in otolaryngology, and if
you start talking to the PhD programs, they will love the idea.
