        SOME VERSES FROM THE QURAN................................

I seek refuge in Allah from the rejected Satan.
In the name of Allah the Most Beneficient, the Most Merciful.

002.204 There is the type of man whose speech about this world's life May
dazzle thee, and he calls God to witness about what is in his heart; yet is he
the most contentious of enemies.

002.205 When he turns his back, His aim everywhere is to spread mischief
through the earth and destroy crops and cattle. But God loveth not mischief.

002.206 When it is said to him, "Fear God", He is led by arrogance to (more)
crime. Enough for him is Hell;-An evil bed indeed (To lie on)!

Subject: Allahu akbar again. Harvard too now has Halal meals.
Date: Sat, 17 Feb 1996 12:37:23 -0500

Assalam alaikum
After sending the original message regarding Eid-ul-Fitr and Halal food
in Syracuse University, we have received a great number of messages from
all around the world. The response has been tremendous, mashallah.

Among the messages we have received is the message that came to us from
the brothers at Harvard university who inform us that they too now have
an official Halal meal program at their university. Mashallah, may Allah
Almighty multiply such news and bring us many more such glad tidings and
may He reward the brothers and sisters in Harvard greatly for their
efforts.

I ask all brothers and sisters who read this message to forward it to
their individual nets and to do their best to send us *GOOD* news and
*GLAD TIDINGS* Remember brothers and sisters, while it is good to spread
the news of the world and be well informed, it is also important to give
your brothers and sisters hope and good news every so often. On the
occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, I ask Allah Almighty to accept your fasting and
prayers and I ask you all to compete with one another upon this most
joyous occasion to bring to us all manner of good news and glad tidings.
Do your best to bring us news that shall be a cause of celibration and
rejoicing. I hope to see our mailboxes overflowing over the next few days
with nothing but good news inshallah.

..... Let the competition begin.

Assalam alaikum

Walaykum Salaam,

Alhamdulillah this is a very encouraging thing. May Allah reward you for
your efforts.

Alhamdulillah, we have beaten you to that claim. The Prophet SAW
encouraged us to compete in good works, so I bring forth the news that
Harvard Alhamdulillah started such a program last year. It ceased
temporarily during the fall but is now InshaAllah permanently established.

From: mbic@dircon.co.uk (Muslim Brotherhood Information Centre)
Subject: Eid Greetings & message
Date: Mon, 19 Feb 1996 14:41:46 +0000 (GMT)

A Message from Muslim Brotherhood Information Centre London, and the
Spokesman for Muslim Brotherhood in the West, Kamal El-Helbawy

On this auspicious occasion of Eidul Fitr we offer our heartfelt
greetings to all our Muslim brothers and sisters the world over. our special
greetings go to those actively engaged in Dawah, helping to make the Word of
Allah supreme. May Allah grant His acceptance to all their prayers, fasting
and sacrifices in His cause. This Eid has come at a time when the Muslim
Ummah is in great pain and distress. A large part of Muslim Ummah is still
suffering under persecution and oppression. Palestine is a bleeding sore in the
heart of the Middle East. In Afghanistan, the Muslims continue to suffer;
Kashmir is groaning under the weight of foreign occupation, Bosnia's wounds are
painfully fresh, and Chechenya's courageous resistance to oppression has yet to
witness the dawn of freedom from the "evil empire." Similarly, the Muslims in
Algeria and Central Asia, and other places are embroiled in disastrous civil
war and fighting. Muslim minorities in different countries are still suffering
from effects of discremination and prejudice against them. The signs of a
new dawn, however, are already visible on the horizon. Whereas there were
only a few independent Muslim States at the turn of this century, there are now
no less than fifty independent Muslim nations. A strong Islamic presence in
the West, Europe, USA, is an established fact. With the breakup of the Soviet
empire, new Muslim nations have emerged on the map. Thanks to the work of the
Islamic movement in the last fifty years Islam, Islamic law and constitution
are now the burning issues in the Muslim world. Young Muslims, men and women,
in colleges and universities are increasingly turning to Islamic way of life.
The recent election results in secular Turkey clearly putting the Welfare in
the lead, shows the pride and the confidence that the Muslims are once again
rediscovering in Islam. Once regarded as antiquated and relegated to the past,
Islam has re-emerged as a power to be reckoned with, both at national and
international levels. The emergence of new Islamic states of Sudan and Yemen
hold great promise for the future. Many other countries are bound to go their
way sooner or later, insha' Allah. Temporary setbacks and hurdles
therefore must not dishearten or deter us from Islamic Dawah. It does take time
and effort, but when the harvest is ready the pickings are abundant and greatly
rewarding. Islamic movement, al-hamudlillah, continues on course pursuing a
path of persistent and patient struggle, without overacting or reacting to
various provocations to deflect it off course. Islam continues to spread in
areas and among people it had not never reached before winning new followers
and gathering more strength. These are important achievements and we are
thankful to Allah for them, but we cannot be complacent and rest on our
laurels. Islam is a message of life-long commitment that calls for continuous
individual and social reform in the light of Allah's Book, the Qur'an, and the
noble life-example of prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). We are riddled
with many afflictions. Politically, we are weak, disunited, spurned,
humiliated and exploited at will by others. Great masses of Muslims are still
oppressed and robbed of their basic human rights, freedoms and dignity by
puny tyrants and dictators imposed, bolstered, and maintained mostly by foreign
powers. To build a bright and prosperous Islamic future, we need to
re-educate ourselves, our peoples, our children, our men and women, young and
old, in the true tradition of the Qur'an and Sunnah, and to reflect them in
our day to day practice and dealings with others. For, to be a good Muslim,
one must, first and foremost, be a good human being, fair, just, ready to
listen and consider, understanding, compassionate, and free from malice and
prejudice. Without these basic human qualities the higher Islamic values of
Taqwa, Ihsan and Qist cannot shine forth in their true splendour. Good
families are a necessary condition for producing good and healthy individuals.
In our struggle we must not therefore neglect building a strong, healthy family
unit where love, compassion, understanding, mutual respect, concern for
others' welfare and well-being pervade, promoting in turn strong positive
relationships both in private and public spheres. These will stand out as
beacons of light in a society where family is fast becoming a thing of the
past. Similarly, we must build a strong social life and society in the light
of Islam, based on brotherhood, shura, mutual respect and freedom. We must
restore to vast masses of Muslims their freedoms, liberties, and basic human
rights usurped by tyrants and foreign powers. Thus alone can we restore to
them their self-respect and confidence that constitute the bedrock of a true
Islamic society, in which the people are free to choose their rulers, and hold
them accountable if they fail them. Only such free and self-respecting
societies are able to withstand dictators from within and exploitation from
outside. They alone provide a sound basis for a progressive, humane, and a
forward-looking Islamic state. Let us, therefore, re-dedicate ourselves to
Allah and to the cause of Islam - Islam that stands for reason, decency,
brotherhood, compassion, charity, justice, sacrifice, and jihad (ceaseless
endeavour for truth, development and justice). we reject terrorism, violence,
oppression, and all manifestations of crude emotions devoid of understanding.
Thus alone we can move forward as one united Ummah guided by the noble and
glorious example of our prophet (peace be upon him), and can play our destined
role in this world as "the best community" justly balanced to bear "witness
over others." We would especially remind our brothers and sisters living in
the western countries that they are in a particularly unique situation.
Surrounded by an alien civilization and culture, their responsibilities toward
themselves, their children, and their families are enormous. Living by Islam,
rather than mere verbal profession, in their personal and family life is
essential for transmitting true values of Islam to the next generation. You are
the ambassadors of Islam in your host communities, and bearers of its dynamic
message to your neighbours and friends. They will understand and judge Islam in
the light of your practical example. We may with pride mention here that two of
the serious problems that the advanced western nations are suffering from and
have so far failed to resolve have already been satisfactorily tackled by the
Islamic movement. These are: drug abuse and crimes. The Islamic movement is not
only free of these evils, but has demonstrated its great promise in checking
these evils. Islam is a most effective means of reforming individuals and
societies. With a little effort and your good example, you can transform your
life as well as the life of those around you. In vast parts of the world,
China, South East Asia etc., Islam spread by the positive example of Muslim
individual businessmen and others. This miracle can surely be repeated in
today's world, provided the Muslims in the West are ready to seize the moment.
This is the best way to counter negative stereotypes against Muslims and Islam
prevalent in western societies. Through concerted efforts, education, dialogue
rather than conflict, argument rather than emotion, and active participation in
the socio-political life of your host communities you can play a vital role,
both nationally and internationally. May Allah bless you, and grant you the
strength to excel both here and in the hereafter. Happy Eid and Eid Mubarak to
all Muslims! ! ! M.S. Kayani (Director) & Kamal El-Helbawy (Spokesman for

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - 2/22/96

AMERICAN MUSLIMS OFFERED INTERNET MAILING LIST
CAIR-NET subscribers to receive action alerts and news
    releases

(WASHINGTON, DC) - The Council on American-Islamic Relations
(CAIR), a Washington-based Islamic advocacy group, has
announced the creation of an internet mailing list designed
for Muslims in North America. The mailing list, called
CAIR-NET, is open to anyone wishing to receive CAIR's news
releases and action alerts.

CAIR bulletins deal with topics ranging from media
stereotyping of Muslims, to anti-discrimination and
educational campaigns, to lobbying efforts on issues of
importance to the American Muslim community.

CAIR-NET is a "read-only" mailing list. This means that
members may not post e-mail messages to others on the list.
A read-only list helps keep individual e-mail accounts from
being overloaded with incoming messages.

Members of the news media who deal with issues related to
the American Muslim community are also encouraged to
subscribe to CAIR-NET.

TO JOIN CAIR-NET
Send a message to majordomo@ari.net.
