Well, after being a chart member of this list and dreaming for months about
making presentations to others on the use of the Internet (volunteering
to Computer Services, to faculty, and to classes), a prof finally took me
up on my offer and I gave my first group presentation on the use of the
Internet yesterday (to a social science research methods class).

Anyway, I have a suggestion for those who have the same equipment at
their disposal that I did yesterday.  I had a classroom with about 50
PCs and one PC in the front (for me).  My PC was hooked up to a projection
unit, so my searching could be seen by all.  I also had the ability to turn
off the monitors of those using the individual PCs.

My suggestion is this:  Demonstrate a technique with the individual
monitors off first so that students are focused on the technique.
After your demonstration and explanation, turn the students, monitors
on and let them do a search in the same database, etc.  When I led
the presentation yesterday, I allowed the students to have their monitors
on all of the time during my searching, so I'm afraid that some gave
into the temptation to "play" and not learn the technique.

My .02 for what it is worth!  I hope that my introductions to use
of the Internet become a regular part of my job.
