The names database is one of the largest databases in the world. It is not clear how to provide general access to such a beast in its current form. (mainframe (CDC) based) The CD-ROMs are available in most of the distributed libraries and the data format is available for the cost of reproduction. There are some local, non-sactioned efforts to port the existing, PC based user interface to the database to a Novell aware environment. The main office is aware of some of these efforts. At least some of the folks working on the names project are very aware of the internet and most are involved in distributed database issues. -- Regards, Bill Manning bmanning@rice.edu PO Box 1892 713-285-5415 713-527-6099 Houston, Texas R.U.
