Answers to Mike's question on a "LIST GLOBAL" equivalent for the Internet
might have more general interest...  Since there is no precise equivalent to
the bitnet listserv function Internet-wide, there's no equivalent command...
But in the UseNetNews list news.lists there is regularly posted lists of
currently-distributed news lists, submitted by Gene Spafford (spaf@cs.purdue.
edu).  The list is also available via gophers -- I found it by doing a
veronica search for "active-newsgroups".

You might try the following:

FTP ftp.nisc.sri.com

in the directory netinfo, get the file interest-groups.  As I recall it
is in a variety of formats.
