A personal observation. Last year I replaced the 183 Mhz 603e chip in
my Mac Powerbook 1400cs with a 250 Mhz (with 1 Mb cache) G3 chip.
This was the only change I made - hard drive, modem, screen, software
etc all remained the same. I was astonished at the increase in speed
of Internet stuff. I could have sworn I'd doubled my modem speed
(from 33k6).

As a trainer I've always told people that a variety of factors affect
the speed of their Internet activity, but had held to the personal
belief that modem speed was probably the biggest factor. Now I'd lean
to saying that overall computer performance is pretty significant.

It stands to reason: the cpu is at the centre of handling everything:
dealing with the modem, input and output, delivering info to the hard
drive, sending info to the screen.

Cheers,

Miraz
