I just followed up on Mail2Web. Indeed... when you connect to their site (http://lib.nmsu.edu/staff/susabeck/checs98.html) you are simply prompted to put in your home server, name and *password* to collect your home email. There are some other banners for "free stuff" but little else, except for a posting (with grammar problems) showing a site for a "secure" connection. Connecting to that site shows the secured site is from Cape Town ZA (pardon my lack of geography info... I don't think that's Capetown South Africa, but I'm betting on Zaire). I don't think anyone should use this site... and be warned off of it. I'm loathe to post this info to listservs, because if forwarded this may look like a hoax. What I'm offering here is advice... namely, be very wary when putting your password online. If it is being filtered through some foreign site who knows? In my previous post I noted I'm concerned about what happens with edmail. To a degree I trust edmail because I'm an educator, and the source seems legitimate. But who knows? Right now I will not use POP mail from WWW mail for the aforementioned reasons, and advise others to do the same. It is much safer and saner to create an account at edmail (or hotmail, yahoomail, geocities, tripod, etc.) and then conduct a certain amount of your email that way. This is a *must* for just about everyone nowadays. I don't know how long the *free* will last with WWW mail... but right now it is invaluable. But mixing it with your home email can prove costly... especially if someone has nefarious intentions. Regards, Jeff Cooper
