In class I use the analogy of  students going to one building to sign up
for a class and then attending, and participating in, the class in
another building.  In other words, they go to the Administration Bldg.
at a certain address on campus and sign up. (Subscribe to listserv)
Then they go to another building at another address on campus  to attend
class, listen to lectures and discussions, and turn in homework.
(Receive and send messages from the listserv)  If they decide to drop
the class, they would have to go back to the original address, the
Administration Bldg.  They couldn't do that from the classroom.
