Wendy,

Here is a checklist that one of our school librarians (K-12) compiled on
when to use the Internet (it seems like it might be pertinent to students
of all ages):

WHEN to use the Internet

If your research question is:

___Not in the textbooks or in the library

___Based on data collected by governments

___Likely to require specialized knowledge

___Best understood from eyewitness accounts

___Based on fast-breaking news (voting results, earthquakes, etc.)

If you want to:

___Collaborate on projects with students world-wide

___Find and contact experts

___Get real-world experience in researching and evaluating information

___Publish student projects and publications

Hope this helps a bit : )
