I'm just beginning to plan a one week (40 hour) workshop titled "Web Site Development, Implementation, and Maintenance for K-12 Teachers" (or perhaps just "Webmaster Workshop") and am seeking ideas from some of you that may have done similar workshops or training. The workshop participants will be required to be very computer literate with Internet browsing/searching experience and understanding. Many of the participants will have done some web page development. Most will be the "technology guru" for their school (qualified or not), and I'm looking to provide information and hands-on experience to help them be the local webmaster. So far I've just considered a list of topics, given below in a very unorganized fashion. Clear all of these can not be covered in-depth in 40 hours. Perhaps you could add to (or subtract from) the list and even suggest organization of the ideas. You will note that I'm planning to use FrontPage and an NT server. Internet Basics--browsing, searching, bookmarks, links, images, and other multimedia. Web Page Design Basics--planning, style, look and feel. Introduction to HTML, with hands-on page development. Introduction to FrontPage, with guided page development. Multimedia Considerations--images, audio, video, animation, formats. Intermediate HTML--Tables, Frames, Forms. Intermediate FrontPage--multiple pages, organization, etc. Microsoft Office to the Web--converting from Word and PowerPoint. Client-Server Introduction--differences. Plug Ins for browsers. More Advanced Web Page Design Considerations--browser compatibility, width, resolution, colors, examples of good and bad. Scripting--Java Scripts, Java Applets, GCI Scripts (?Active X). Data Collection on the Server. Appropriate Web Site Content for K-12 Schools--ideas of what to include/what not to include. Security Issues. K-12 Internet Resources. Windows NT Web Hosting. FrontPage Personal Server and Webbot. Advanced FrontPage-web publishing. Announcing Pages to search engines. Web-Based Instruction. Web Site Management. Web Site Maintenance. Any suggestions you have for addtions, deletions, and/or organization of topics will be appreciated. I will post a summary to the discussion group. George E.
