I'm posting this message that I read from a usenet thread dedicated to
photojournalism that ran this past Sunday May 2, from North Carolina.
In light of the past few weeks discussions on the film confiscation by
police in East Lansing, Mich. this camera confiscation by police seems to
show the way police are now operating. The confiscation technique seem to be
quite widespread. It looks like the NPPA and other professional
organizations are going to have to do a lot of public educating to get the
problem resolved.

Here's a quote from a story in today's news:

"Everybody who was taking pictures had their cameras taken away by the
cops," Tiano said.

Guess what country... Concord, North Carolina, USA. The story was
describing an accident at a car race track where debris flew into the
crowd and killed three spectators.

If you were there, as a spectator, what would you do when a police
officer demanded you give him your camera?

My guess is the NPPA would say this is a labor dispute and that is why
they are not getting involved...

I don't foresee ever being huge.
I am just famous enough to be annoyed by it...
