Need a recognition program for the Mac

Just recently here at UCR, we had several Macintosh computers stolen from
offices here on campus. Besides the loss of hardware, there is also a
considerable loss of data. Several of the professors who lost data have
hard copies of the data, yet they need them input back into the computer.

For some of this data, this is not a problem, but there are some that are
more difficult. Is there a scan recognition program availible that will
understand lines and text as element and import them into a drawing app
of some kind, such a Aldus Freehand? This data looks similar to a flowcart,
yet with more lines and more text.

This does not neccessarily need to be on the Macintosh, but it is
preferred.

Commercial apps are acceptable since almost any price is cheaper than the
cost of reentering the data.

Thanks,
Roy Brown
