Wanted Test-scoring system

     I'm looking for a university-style test-scoring system.

Oregon State University has had fairly long history of Optical Mark
Read test scoring, but all the programs that do the actual scoring and
reports have been designed and written locally, in FORTRAN. They have
been converted at least three times for mainframe replacements, that I
am aware of. We are once again faced with a mainframe/operating system
replacement. In these times of lower budgets and smaller staffing, it
is going to be difficult to convert and maintain this old code.
Locally, we have been discussing alternatives to once again converting
this code and SAS has been mentioned as a somewhat universal, higher-
level, language to move to.

My hope is that someone reading this list might be able to help us
make a decision by providing us with information based on their
experiences in this area. Maybe, even get us jump-started by providing
a way to obtain some programs already developed for test scoring or
other OMR applications. I apologize if this information can be had on
the net somewhere already, just point me in the right direction.

I would appreciate any information or assistance that you could
provide us in this area. It would be desirable to send responses
directly to me, since I don't really follow this list. I can summarize
back to the list, if desired.

Thanks in advance,

Phil
