Thanks to all for the suggetions on sports and science. I have Newton at the Bat and I am planning on using it. I will have to look into the other suggetions. I am trying to concentrate on the biology rather than the physics (but we are doing some as well as some chemistry). The reason is this is a new program and some of the students may end up in the regular track at the end of the year and our 9th graders get mostly biology. I am looking for some LABS in physics or biology that have a sports theme. I am doing a pulse reading after exercise lab to teach them some graphing skills. Does anyone have other ideas about sports and graphing? I need a good scientific method type lab --- teaching them the scientific method as such that has sports as a basis. I am also looking for some stuff that I could have them do on a field trip to the Ranger game (baseball) in terms of science. I do this every year with my physics students, but most of these kids have one year of Alg. or none at all (they are taking it now, or are in geometry). I am planning on having the measure some stuff (metric system, teaching dimensional analysis.) and doing some speed measurements --- any other ideas???? Thanks for the help given already.
