Another reply from Virginia You might have them use a dart gun aimed at a target, via a laser, to shoot the dart (plastic, rubber tipped) at a target several distances away. If you could get the dart to stick, then you could measure the drop as a function of the distance from the gun (shades of projectile motion), and then ask the kids how they would aim the gun to hit the bulls eye of the target. (I would hope that they would measure how far below the target they hit and then start from that distance below to finding how far above the target.) I had a student who did a project type on golf-ball hitting in that he suspended a club like a pendulum and struck a golf ball (on a tee) and measured how far the ball went as a runction of how high the club head was raised. (The tee was elevated). I think that sports particularly lend themselves to projectile motion studies. Hope these are somewhat helpful -- Dave Button -- jbutton@tjhsst.vak12ed.edu
