Our new chem teacher and I each got a new, top-of-the-line
IBM 486 (model 50) with CD-ROM/audio, 6 meg RAM, Windows, the
works. We also have large screen TV's available which (I hope)
can handle their output.
I read recent physhare threads about Interactive Physics and
CDROM, but nowhere did I hear the IBM platforms mentioned. Our
district will absolutely not purchase Macs. I hope some folks
who use PCs can give us advice.
First of all are CDROMs compatible between PCs and Macs? I
read about folks using the CD-ROM Physics Toolkit, presumably for
Macs- is the toolkit available for PCs also? If not, can anyone
point me to good CD-ROMs for chem a/o physics?
Secondly, is the Interactive Physics series available for
PCs? I know that Wings (Sunburst) does the Physics Explorer
series- is it available for PCs, and is it worth the money? The
other company I read about is Knowledge Revolution- do they sell
Interactive Physics, and, again, is there an IBM version?
Everything I have used so far has been network-based DOS
software. Some things, like Data Analysis from Wings, have been
good, and of course I use spreadsheets and word processors. The
old IBM Physics Discovery series is also available on our
network, but it just doesn't hold their attention for long. I am
searching for new directions with this Windows environment, but
of course I am presently limited to only one computer. Is there
any good Windows interfacing hardware/software that I should
consider? Thanks, <<Joe>>
