Chris and Alan
I think you are on the right track. I have been doing Amusment Park
Physics for over 15 years using Great Adventure in New Jersey. My work
with students has gone thru many transformations from the simple problems
to the slick ride packet type of experience.
Last year (Spring 1994) I threw it all away and asked students to find
examples of four of the major concepts studied that year. Wonderful
experience. Very time consuming to evaluate.
This year (Spring 1995) I threw out last years work and asked ....
Great Adventure is one large physics example . . . explain in
detail.
The students were asked to decide what were the major concepts studied
this year, find examples of those concepts at the park, take the
appropriate data, construct and solve the mathematical details and discuss
the how the problems relate back to the concepts.
The work is due on May 15 and is one massive project both for students and
their teacher. I'll send more info when time permits.
