In regards to Steve Baskauf's request for demo's: The one demonstration I recall from freshman physics at Clarkson University was one similiar to the previous discussion about dropping a magnet down a long pipe. The difference in this demo is that the pipe was supercooled with liquid nitrogen. This caused the magnet to move very slowly through the pipe (almost stopping). At the time, I thought it was an interesting demonstration, and I think it would get students thinking about what happens. Just thought I'd share my $0.02 worth!
