This is not true, use the COMPILE command and a new file (the compiled
version of your source code) will be created; I do this very often.
I have no experience with TurboBasis or with QuickBasic but a person
who does tells me that True Basic is the best first programming language.
Here is what I like about True Basic:
1. It is very easy to learn.
2. For $20 students can buy the tool together with a short and well
written manual. The only difference between the student version of
True Basic and the production version is the length of the code (200
lines in the first case and "unlimited" in the second).
3. Programs are identical on all platforms; I use Mac in class while
students can do their homework on IBM compatibles (DOS or WINDOWS).
Even graphics is transportable.
4. True Basic is a "post-Pascal" tool and it has everything needed to
promote structured programming. For example, the IF-THEN and SELECT
structures, subroutines and subfunctions, local and global variables
etc.
5. Graphic (and musical) commands are available.

Call the TRUE BASIC COMPANY (at 800-436-2111) and ask for the catalog;
they produce and sell other software, for example, a library of True Basic
routines for 2-dim graphics, routines fro 3-dim graphics, etc. The postal
address is:
True Basic Inc. 12 Commercial Aveenu, West Lebanon, NH, 03784-1669, USA.
