Dear Members,
I just received a message over the SPSMM list (division 51 of APA)
stating that the message posted on 1/4/97 to the psycgrad group concerning
internet changes is actually a hoax. This message and the alledged hoax
message are re-printed below.
I've learned something from the two hoax messages that have come across
the PSYCGRAD list in the past month: I need to use my critical eye when
looking at these types of messages, and if I care enough to act on a
particular message, I need to validate it before acting on it. Hopefully this
will keep me from falling prey to this type of hoax again.

Here is the hoax notification message:
>This is a hoax that has been around for the last 4 years. It seems that
>peoples' memories have a half-life of about 3 months, so hoaxers send it
>out about every 4 to 6 months. Please don't fill the box of the FCC with
>useless messages.
Here is the alledged hoax message:
>Dear Friends,
>Your local telephone company has filed a proposal with the FCC to
>impose per minute charges for your Internet Service.
>The FCC has created an e-mail box for your comments. This must be
>received before February 13, 1998 at [isp@fcc.gov].
>Tell them what you think, and tell them NO CHARGES on yout Internet
>Service.
>Please pass this message on.
