I agree with Adrian that 'quality' is management.  It should be an
underpinning tenet of all management systems - just as a profit motive is a
driving force behind managerial attitudes.  Some will argue I am sure that
'quality' should in fact replace 'profit' as a strategic focus. The need
for a quality orientation is more keenly felt in the service industries
than in manufacturing. However, with many different forms of distribution
replacing the existing, and product life cycles becoming narrower  -
quality is almost the only way that differentiation can take place.
