Dale and the Economists [not the singing group 8-) ]  seem to minimize
the impact of a lost job for those on the factory floor...

For probably all of us on this list - threat of job loss probably
brings a vision of inconvenience and possibly relocation.  This has to
do with mental security and financial reserves.

For many factory level personnel, threat of job loss is much more fear
inducing.  Their reserves are almost non-existent.  All unemployment
checks cover is food.  By the end of the first month, monetary
reserves are gone; and often, so is the car.  By the third month,
their home is at risk.

I have no research or statistics to quote - I have faced this, along
with many friends.  I doubt if many of you have faced "Lay-off
Lottery" - where you go by the time clock _every_ Friday to see if
your clock card number is on the lay-off list.

Just a view of fear from the inside.
