Another area that you need to be aware of when preparing for your registration
audit are the "hot buttons" of your registrar.

The 2 registrars that I have had experience with were very different to the
point that we finaly discontinued our relationship with one.

The registrar that we ultimately received our ISO9002 registration from had 3
clauses that were paramount to them, Management Review, Corrective Action and
Internal Auditing. The audit team would not make a recomendation for
registration with any shortcomings in these areas and required a re-audit to
confirm corrective action. Of course findings in any area required corrective
action but unless it was a major breakdown in the system it would not stop the
registration process.

The first registrar that we worked with continually nit-picked our Quality
Manual and would not work with us on our Supplier Partnership Program. Our
program put a heavy emphasis on front end qualification and rating with
inprocess monitoring of there performance inplace of a Receiving Inspection
function. This registrar did not want to accept that you could be ISO compliant
without Receiving Inspection.

So, the advice I can give you is; Spend some up-front time assessing potential
registrars before selecting one. You need to consider, are there philosophies in
line with your methods, and, are they recognized in the markets that you do
business.
