One widely used flavor of Demand Flow Technology is known as
Drum-Buffer-Rope (for operations/production management) and the
Replenishment distribution solution (for make-to-stock situations). These
were developed and refined by Eli Goldratt and the Goldratt Institute (of
which I am an associate - disclaimer). The basic concepts of DBR were
introduced in Goldratt's classic book, THE GOAL. Replenishment was
introduced (along with a lot of other stuff) in the sequel, IT'S NOT LUCK.

The usual drawback of balanced systems that involve Kanban or Takt times
is that balance itself. If any piece of the system goes down, the entire
system suffers not unlike an assembly line. DBR, following the dictum set
up by its underlying philosophy (the Theory of Constraints) uses
strategic buffers of time/inventory to protect and maximize the output of
the entire system. It also provides a clear path for on-going improvement.

Both DBR and Replenishment involves linking market demand to production
plans to assure that the system can respond to market needs to
capabilities to support it.

Individually or in combination, these have been applied in hundreds of
companies in a wide range of industries, from basic manufacturing to food
ingredients to hospitals to winow makers to...

There are dozens of testimonals available from various TOC or Constraint
Management conferences from many representatives of these industries.
Rick...If you let me know what kind of context within which you are
interested in applying synchronized flow managmement, I'll be able to
guide you to appropriate information.
