What news (or old) should I look for for next century's quality? What will be new to you? Your thoughts are welcome. Johan Maertens, CSP, MSE Western Michigan University Engineering College mineral.maertens@wmich.edu >> I feel there importance of the quality growing and it will continue to a crucial player in the future competitive business environment. But the focus is shifting from product quality to quality of the whole supply chain. It is visible from many companies drive to improve the quality of its vendors as well as the service quality of the distribution network. In the past quality meant only standardising technical specifications of the product and the company's processes to meet the set standards. Quality emphasis was mainly for Manufacturing firms. But now the focus is customer needs. It is evident from the new straegies of the organisations have the competitive edge. Now the trends are to apply TOTAL QUALITY MANAGEMENT all the organisations including service organisations, NGOs and Goverment organisations and even to universities, Colleges and schools. To quote an example There was a symposium on "TOTAL QUALITY MANAGEMENT IN THE SCHOOL EDUCATION, QUALITY CIRCLES IN SCHOOLS" organised in India participated by teachers and students from 20 countries. I feel in the coming few years the TQM aspects will be applied to every walk of life. It is the future of the business. Please provide me the feedback it will be helpful in refining thought process regards Prasad Reddy IISIM prasad@iisim.ernet.in
