Hello. I am a management consultant with Strategic Systems & Products Corporation in Dallas. We are an IT Consulting firm that offers a wide range of services to assist companies prepare their software applications for the Year 2000. There is a significant amount of information that has been published by the public and private sector regarding the nature of this problem. The National Institute of Standards and Technology has a site with good information regarding the nature of the problem and what it means to be Y2K compliant. Their site is www.nist.gov/y2k . Any business organization that has date sensitive applications will be affected if their information systems originated from the 1960's, 70's or 80's. The applications that are clearly affected are banking, insurance, sales order, accounting and manufacturing. However, a company must undergo a Year 2000 Readiness Assessment to determine which processes might be affected regardless of the industry. As far as Brazil, the same rules apply. I have not seen any information specific to Brazil probably because most publications focus on the applications regardless of the geographical location.
