This announcement was sent earlier to UseNet group bit.listserv.relusr-l.
It seems it never reached list RELUSR-L, which is gatewayed to UseNet.
For those who have received this mail twice now: our apologies!
In this issue:
1. announcement of general interest
2. services for the Relay-community
EURECON: ANNOUNCEMENT OF GENERAL INTEREST
Last year a group of relayers was formed who initiated the idea for
an European Relay Conference. The idea was born as we saw a group of
European Relayers who were interested to meet others, but were not in
the position to afford the costs to attend NETCON. We wanted to set up
a context where we could organize meetings for European Relayers.
The group named itself 'EURECON' ("European Relay Conference").
EURECON '94 is our first activity. EURECON '94 is a meeting for
all Eureopan Relayers, whereas other nationalities are welcome
too. The meeting will take place during the weekend of of August
20th 1994, in Nijmegen (the Netherlands).
When the pre-registration starts, we will announce it also on
RELUSR-L.
If you are interested to receive more information about EURECON,
and to keep informed about all developements, you can subscribe
to our mailing-list. Subscription is -of course- free.
We set up a LISTSERV-list for this purpose. The list is now open
for subscription. All mailings are archived, so subscribers are
able to retreive past mailings. And the list keeps archives of
interested files for the Relay-community (you don't need to be
subscribed to retreive these archives).
The list is moderated. This means all messages, send to the list,
are forwarded to the moderators. Only they are in the position to
send mail to the list. We received some question about why we
decided to make the list moderated. This is mainly due to two
reasons:
1) We have an address to be contacted for general information.
This address is: EURECON-request@HEARN. This is a mail-alias for
the moderators of the list. However, we received several mails
which were sent to the list, but were intended for the
moderators. As the list is moderated now, the subscribers will
not be troubled about unintended mailings.
2) List EURECON is mentioned for 'official' announcements about
EURECON. This way we keep mail-traffic low and efficient.
The list is now open fur subscription. Everyone who is interested
to receive information about EURECON, can subscribe.
The list is running on LISTSERV@HEARN (bitnet) and
LISTSERV@nic.surfnet.nl (internet). You can subscribe by way of
sending a message to this LISTSERV containing a specific command:
If you want to subscribe from your bitnet-address, send the
following command to LISTSERV@HEARN:
1) If you are working on a VM-system:
tell listserv at hearn subscribe EURECON Your_Full_Name, eg:
tell listserv at hearn subscribe EURECON John Smith
2) If you are working on a VAX-system:
send listserv@hearn subscribe EURECON Your_Full_Name, eg:
send listserv@hearn subscribe EURECON John Smith
3) If you want to subscribe by way of e-mail:
send a mail-message to LISTSERV@HEARN (bitnet) or
LISTSERV@nic.surfnet.nl (internet) with the only
content:
subscribe EURECON Your_Full_Name, eg:
subscribe EURECON John Smith
The use of a subject is not necessary. Do not use any
other messages in the mail, as signatures. LISTSERV is
a computer-program that only understands specific
commands.
When you are subscribed, you will receive automatic notification,
some information on how to use LISTSERV, and an information-file
about EURECON.

EURECON: SERVICES FOR THE RELAY COMMUNITY
A lot of information, of interest for the Relay-community, is
dispersed throughout the 'network-jungle'. We have decided to
make our LISTSERV a central place where this information can be
collected. We have just started this, and we hope more information
can be stored here in the future. If you have ideas on how to
extend our archives, drop us a line :-) At present we have the
following files available. Please note that you don't have to be
subscriber to order these files.
RELAY TOPOLOGY The Relay-links, according to /LINKS,
written by L. Seuren (December 1993).
RELAY TOPLOGIA The Relay-links, Spanish version,
written by Isabella de la Bara,
Chile MasterOp (December 1993).
RELAY FAQ Frequently Asked Questions about Relay.
CONS EXEC A handy VM-program to log interactive
communications, written by Ben Perkins,
Yale MasterOp.
RELAY HISTORY Relay: Past, Present, and Future - an
except from presentation made at the
1987 NETCON, written by Jeff Kell.
RELAY CLASSES A description of the classes on Relay.
EURECON FILELIST This is a listing of all the available
files. You can retrieve this document if
you want an up-date listing, eg for seeing
if new files have been added to our archives.
How to order files?
You can order these files from LISTSERV@HEARN (bitnet) or
LISTSERV@nic.surfnet.nl (internet), where all files are stored.
All you have to do is sending a message to this LISTSERV. The
message should read:
GET <filename> <filetype> EURECON, eg:
GET RELAY FAQ EURECON
If you have troubles in retrieving the files, contact us at
one of the addresses below.
If you have information which is of interest to the Relay-
community, and you want us to store it in our archives, please
contact us.
If someone can offer us an anonymous ftp-host where we
can mirror our archives, please contact us.
