To start at the end, IBM decided to make it NOT simple. The only way to get
everything working fine is to have the correct font in the CHAR option,
otherwise some .pf's or .re's might destroy your default. Also, the width
of the space depends on the initial font from the CHAR option.

Thus the only clean way should be to add the desired fonts to the font library,
which is pretty easy for 3820 fonts (just make a copy of the coded font and
change the fontname), but unfortunately the CHAR option is ignored for PS.

To get the same result for PostScript you have to add a new logical device
(or was it physical?) to DCF whith the desired pointsize specified in the
parameter list. How to do that is documented in the "Text Programmer's Guide",
Chapter 10. If you have problems, contact me, I could send you what I did
to solve the problem.
