I've got a weird spacing problem that only happens when preparing my reference list using APA documentation style. First, let me give you my Script context. At Kent State, Computer Services has a software program called KSUFORM. By using an imbedded command, it calls up a specially designed format for Kent's theses and dissertations. It is, as I understand it, a macro for Script and GML commands. For the most part, KSUFORM is easily adaptable for any papers I write. In my shell file, I use proportional fonts (e.g., times 12). Here's a typical header for a Script paper file: .ti \ 05 .im ksusym .im ksuform .font times 12 .tm 1i .bm 1i .pm 1i .ll 6.5i .rh on .font times 12 .fo right & .sp 1 .rh off .rf supp;.rh supp .ss When I type in my references, there is a GML-like bibliography note command, :BE. and :eBE. In between these commands, I type in the bibliographic entry like so: :be.Ansen, D. (1992, June 8). Of carnage and comedy. :HP1.Newsweek:eHP1., p. 59.:ebe. :be.Burnim, M. (1988). Functional dimensions of gospel music performance. :HP1.Western Journal of Black Studies, 12:eHP1.(2), 112-121.:ebe. :be.Foss, S. K. (1989). :HP1.Rhetorical criticism: Exploration and practice:eHP1.. Prospect Heights, IL: Waveland.:ebe. The problem? Sometimes, I get unwanted spaces between characters. It happens at random. For instance, look at the Burnim reference. The "12" for the volume number is highlighed (or underlined). Immediately following is a "2" for the issue number. I don't want space between the "12" and the "2." At any given time, when using the exact same format, some entries are fine while others have inserted spaces. I've tried a number of things with no success: adding a .fo left command in front of the bibliography section; a .dc cont command between the places I didn't want spaces; and a .co off/.co on command for the entries. While the .co off/.co on command "fixed" the spaces, it worked "too well." The output ended up way too "boxy." It had the appearance of the .fo off command where the output line came out _exactly_ how I typed it in. So I guess I want to know what I need to do to ensure that my spacing is consistent. Many thanks! Pierre
