Frommy experience of a few years ago, I would not compare SimKit with DEMOS at all. They approach things in a radically different way. SimKit is an AI oriented approach to discrete event simulation. It uses (or used to use) a Lisp based application development environment. It had some advantages in flexibility from such an approach, but at the expense of secure typing and, most crucially, runtime efficiency when compared to SIMULA and DEMOS. To my (biased) point of view, SimKit is a nice bright toy, while DEMOS is a powerful engine waiting to be used for real applications. Who says DEMOS can't link in C code, by the way? No problems for any half decent SIMULA compiler to handle that. There is a defined language interface for calling functions in C. -- Rob Pooley Department of Computer Science Edinburgh University Kings Buildings Mayfield Edinburgh EH9 3JZ Scotland Tel. +44 31 650 5123 Fax. +44 31 667 7209
