Christain Steinebach asks for what many of us would like, i.e. a Turbo like
environment for graphics for SIMULA. I seem to remember leading a discussion
at the Innsbruck SIMULA Users Conference which asked for this years ago.

Please note, however, that there is a simple X Windows object oriented
SIMULA library, written here and described in the proceedings of the Pilsen
conference. It is not the universal answer, but we have used it to write
simple tools, like class browsers and CASE tool interfaces. I have used it
with some help to build a simple hierarchical graphical interface to DEMOS.
You draw activity diagrams on the screen and it generates the DEMOS.

The package is written entirely in SIMULA except for a few C interface calls,
which are the only part specific to X windows. A couple of other people have
taken it, but I can't report on their success in using it. It is not a SIMULA
version of Borland, but it is an OO interface for simple windows programming
in SIMULA. I believe that it could be ported to any windows system by rewriting
the C interface and then the SIMULA level application code should still work,
but I haven't had time to do so.

If Christian or anyone else would like to try this out, let me know and I will
send the sources.

In some versions of SIMULA, by the way, I thought there was a way to call a
whole SIMULA program from C or assembler. Unfortunately, there is a general
problem with calling procedures or functions written in languages which
maintain their own heap spaces, so it has restricted use.
