Get to know the guy in charge and his team of forecasters on a name basis. A visit every once-in-a while supplemented by phone calls on a regular, say weekly basis. The NWS folks are interested in protecting lives, if they have information that can do that and know who to call, it has been my experience, at least in North Texas that they are more than happy to place that phone call. I can not speak for other Forecast Offices. It would, I think, be a better discussion if we all refrained from extrapolating an experience with one NSW office to a nation wide policy.
