The KB9KEF-10 APRS wide digi on 144.39 mhz was created on 10/20/98 to
fill a significant APRS coverage gap existing between Madison and
Milwaukee Wisconsin. Our goal was to address this situation and improve
the digital connectivity between the two largest cities here in the
Dairyland. Hopefully the entire East/West I-94 corridor is now under the
APRS "umbrella" between those cities.

This 24 hour wide digi is located in East Central Jefferson County WI
midway between MSN and MKE. Our station utilizes the following gear,

- Radio Shack HTX-212 45 watt 2 meter transceiver.
- Astron 20 amp power supply.
- Cushcraft A148-10S 2 meter, 10 element beam, orientated towards 280
degrees.
- Kantronics KPC-3 Plus v8.3 Terminal Node Controller.
- APRS DOS v824 software.

This was a group project with equipment/site/labor/support provided by
the following good friends - Barry KB9LYL, Jim KB9KBK, Neal KB9MZD and
Phil KB9KEE. Thanks also go to Jeff KA9VNV for his development of the
KPC-3 Plus INITKAN.TNC and RESTORE.TNC files used on the KB9KEF-10 digi.

At this time I would strongly encourage any aspiring or former APRS
users in Dane, Jefferson, Northern Rock, Southern Dodge and Western
Waukesha Counties to get "APRS ACTIVE" and enjoy our new capabilities.
If you are visiting or mobile in SE Wisconsin make sure to bring your
APRS/GPS gear.

My sincere thanks to everyone for your consideration.
