                       Journal of Mathematical Sociology

                    Special Issue on Sociological Algorithms

The Journal of Mathematical Sociology invites submissions for a
special issue to be titled "Sociological Algorithms." Papers
should deal with existing computer programs for sociological
simulations or analyses, and each paper should include the
following components:

A lucid account of the substantive problem that is
addressed by the program. This introduction should be
grounded in sociological literature, and it should identify
sociological work that benefits from the program.

A flowchart showing the logic of the programming
solution. The flowchart constitutes the formal model in
the paper and should be comprehensible in inself, within
the conventions of flowcharting. Flowcharts, and any
other illustrations, should be high quality, camera-ready
     graphics.

Verbal exposition of the algorithm. This, too, should be
comprehensible in itself, as if the flowchart were not
available, while making references to the flowchart so as
to link the graphic and verbal presentations. Short
segments of programming code may be included to
     clarify specific matters.

Description of inputs and outputs, perhaps through a
short example. This section should delineate the kind of
information that a sociologist needs in order to use the
program and the kind of information that the sociologist
gains. Do not discuss input-output programming routines
unless the I/O algorithms are of exceptional sociological
     interest.

Submit four copies of your paper, in JMS style, before February
1, 1994 to the special-issue editor: David R. Heise, Department
of Sociology, Indiana University, Bloomington, IN 47405
