International Conference on Applied Demography, Sept 24-26, 1992

           CALL FOR CONTRIBUTED PAPERS

Abstracts for contributed papers are sought for the Fourth
International conference on Applied Demography to be held September
24-26, 1992, at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green,
Ohio. Conference sessions examine the ways demographic data and
concepts are used to inform business and policy decisions, cover
recent developments in and applications of demographic techniques
in telecommunications, education, marketing, health care, insurance,
business planning, etc., review new computer applications, information
sources and census materials, while encouraging debate on the issues
and concerns common to professionals working in the areas which
rely on applied demography. The conference focus will be on 1990/91
census data and how applied demographers can make use of early data
files, like STF1A in the U.S., while other non-conventional data
sources are equally interesting. Demographers, economists, market
researchers, health care professional, telecommunication researchers,
geographers and statisticians representing national, state and
provincial agencies, corporations, and universities are expected
to contribute to the conference.

Possible topics for papers, workshops and roundtable discussions
include but are not limited to the following:

% Census Products and Services (e.g., data and software
products, CD-ROM technology, TIGER)

housing, labor force, school enrollment, corporate staff and work
force, temporary populations; de facto populations--the homeless)

% Estimating Short Term Migration (e.g., the effects of free
trade and related labor force issues)

% Teaching Applied Demography (e.g., course outlines and
exercises, computer software, problems developing undergraduate
and graduate programs, case studies applying demography to business
and government)

% The Data Information Industry (e.g., private vendor products,
products for segmenting the market)

% Small Area Estimation Techniques (e.g., provincial and
county, census districts, tracts, and block groups)

% Market Demography (e.g., health care, telecommunications,
marketing, financial, education, advertising, retail trade, etc.)

% Demographers in the Courts (e.g., defending population
estimates, the demographer as advocate)

% Issues Surrounding the Population Undercount and its
Adjustment

other waste disposal assessment)

% Geographic Information Systems Technology and Geodemographic Data
(e.g., CD-ROM technology, data base applications, geographic data
systems, remote sensing)
