Thanks to Scott (nmi) Mattes I have REFORM XEDIT which will re-format a
text file to a new record length.  E.g.  I can use it on this paragraph
to do the following.

I used reform 1 58 on the above paragraph.  It will also do a whole file

If on the otherhand you want the original structure to be visible so that
you get something like

Then the following set of commands will be useful.

if your original file is IN FILE A lrecl 400 and you want OUT FILE A lrecl 80

X OUT FILE A
LRECL 80
SET SPILL WORD
GET IN FILE A

This can easily be done using rexx and the queue command.
